Primary Working Of Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pump

What benefits does Air Operated Diaphragm Pump offer?

Pumps that employ air pressure to push fluid through a diaphragm can be found in factories of all sizes and a wide range of fields. These pumps are widely used in the petrochemical and food and beverage industries. The one-of-a-kind construction of these tools makes them perfect for moving rough or sticky materials. But how do they function, exactly?

A positive displacement pump driven by compressed air is known as an Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pump. Using a shaft connected between the two chambers, the compressed air can be transferred from one to the other. This reciprocating motion fills one chamber with liquid and empties it into the discharge tube.

What Is An Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pump?

One kind of PD pump is an Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pump (AODD). It has two chambers filled and emptied by moving diaphragms, creating a cyclical pumping action. Compressed air is pumped through the system by being introduced into and released from chambers on either side of the diaphragms.

Transfer applications are the most common usage for AODD pumps, and they can handle a wide range of feeds, including sludges, slurries, abrasives, and shear-sensitive fluids. They are sturdy, dependable, and simple to maintain, but they make a lot of noise, are quickly frozen over, and can only be used in low-pressure situations.

How does Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pump work?

Compressed air is used to power air-operated double diaphragm pumps supplied by Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pump supplier in India, a special positive displacement pump. In a future post, we’ll go into the benefits of an air-operated double diaphragm pump (AODD), but for now, let’s quickly go through how this pump is managed.

Connecting compressed air to an AODD pump causes the air to travel through an air motor and “push the liquid out” through a diaphragm. To “draw in the liquid,” the pushed diaphragm is attached to a shaft that pulls the opposing diaphragm, creating a cavity on the other side.

Ball or flap valves are common one-way valves installed at the bottom and top of the two chambers. In other words, the liquid is forced upwards and out of the hollow when it is closed and sucked into the cavity when it is opened. After a while, the cavity on the opposite side will close, and the other will open. There are theoretical limits of 400 hertz for this to occur.

What kinds of materials are suited for Air Operated Diaphragm Pump

Multiple viable solutions for AODD pump materials have been tried and accurate throughout the years. Rubber, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) are the three most common types of these materials (PTFE).

There are many different configurations of these primary materials that can be used for pumping, each with its own set of advantages based on the specifics of the application and the nature of the pushed product.

What benefits does Air Operated Diaphragm Pump offer?

  • No Electricity: Compressed air is used to power these pumps. This enables their use in potentially dangerous settings where an electrical connection would be inappropriate.
  • Simplicity: The installation and use of AODDs are straightforward because they don’t call for any special wiring or electrical regulation. You can use them with less effort than other kinds of pumps.
  • Run Dry: Without liquid, an AODD pump exported by Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pump exporter in India will not malfunction or be damaged. Some other types of pumps must be kept primed at all times and can only run dry if the entire pump or its parts are destroyed, which would necessitate an expensive rebuild.
  • Viscous liquids: There is no limit to the fluid viscosity that air-operated double diaphragm pumps can handle. Pumps that can move both low- and high-viscosity materials have several potential applications. Other pumps fail or become inoperable when exposed to such highly viscous fluids.
  • Abrasive Substances: An AODD pump can process fluids of low and high viscosities, solid or powdered solids, and corrosive or abrasive fluids.
  • Gentle pumping: These diaphragm pumps are ideal for transferring shear-sensitive media since they have gentle pumping due to the lack of exposed impellers or other moving elements.
  • Safety: In addition to the advantages listed above, using an AODD pump for transporting hazardous or combustible liquids is also a safe choice.

Safety precautions to be used while using the machine

Safety precautions should also be considered when running the Air Operated Diaphragm Pump.

  • Suppose you need to replace the inner sleeve, clean the extrusion valve, or perform any other operation on the pipeline valve. In that case, you must first cut off the gas supply and disconnect the connection near the gas supply.
  • Ensure the tools, sections of the valve body, and other components are in touch with the squeeze valve at all times while it is in use.
  • Before allowing the valve to come into touch with the conveying medium/product, read and follow the directions on the safety data sheet.
  • When the medium delivery temperature is high, you should not touch the pinch valve (there is a risk of combustion).
  • Pinch valves may be removed only when the apparatus is shut down, and there is no pressure.
  • A pressure limiter and safety valve should be put on a pneumatic double diaphragm pump to prevent the pump from operating at a pressure higher than its maximum safe working pressure or control pressure.
  • It is impossible to employ a dangerous gas as a medium for labour.
