Doorstep Banking means that you can take advantage of all the facilities of banking sitting at home. In this, customers can easily take advantage of basic banking services such as check drop/ collection and cash deposits/ withdrawals, etc. from their homes.
Meaning they don’t need to go anywhere. You can even open a fresh fixed deposit, using Doorstep Banking Services or DBS. The services that are provided under DBS vary from one bank to another.
How to get Door Step Banking Service?
To avail of the services of Doorstep Banking, customers have to enter a request through a phone or a mobile banking facility that is provided by the banks.
Then the bank accesses your request and then sends it to their personnel (people) at the registered communication address of the customer.
While some banks such as Axis Bank provide these services to all customers, there are many who offer DBS service only to senior citizens (aged 70 and above) and disabled or suffering from any medically certified chronic illness or disability.

When the service of DBS became successful in private banks, then our Finance Minister announced an alliance (which is a part of EASE Banking Reforms) to be formed, in which about 12 public sector banks would participate to start the DBS initiative.
The customers of these PSBs can now avail of this service through universal touchpoints such as call centers, web portals,s or mobile apps. These services are provided through doorstep banking agents.
Why is Doorstep Banking Important?
Many people find it difficult to reach the bank, so they have to depend on others. For example, to fill the forms, such as Form 15G/H and life certificate of a pensioner.
But now with the help of DBS, all these tasks are done sitting at home, while some banks even send you mobile ATMs on your request, which are included under DBS initiatives.
Is doorstep banking service free?
No, the Doorstep Banking service is not free. In this, for each DBS request, you have to pay some bank charges which range between ₹ 60-200 (plus taxes).
Whereas if the services are offered through their alliance, then for PSBs you have to pay ₹ 75 (plus taxes) per financial/ non-financial service.
Is doorstep banking service provided every day?
No, you will get Doorstep Banking service on all working days when the bank is open. Whereas after you make a request, it takes 1 to 2 days to process your request.
