IPL 2030: Players Could Earn ₹150 Crore, Says Lalit Modi

Indian Premier League (ipl)

A major prediction regarding the IPL has emerged. The league’s founder and former chairman, Lalit Modi, believes that in the coming years, the financial value of the IPL is set to multiply manifold, and player earnings could reach record-breaking levels.

According to Lalit Modi, by 2030, the IPL teams‘ ‘player purse’—the cap on spending for players—could reach $100 million, or approximately ₹932 crore. Currently, in 2026, this limit stands at around ₹125 crore. This implies that over the next few years, this figure could increase by more than seven times.

Speaking to Michael Vaughan on The Overlap Cricket, he stated that if this scenario unfolds, top-tier players could potentially earn up to ₹150 crore in a single season. He believes that elite players could earn approximately $1 million—amounting to crores of rupees—per match. Furthermore, three to four key players on any given team could collectively earn between $15 million and $16 million in a single season.

Meanwhile, the excitement on the field continues in the 2026 IPL season. On Thursday, Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets, extending their winning streak. This marked the fourth consecutive defeat for the Mumbai team.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted a total of 195 runs in 20 overs. Quinton de Kock played a magnificent unbeaten innings of 112 runs for the team, while Naman Dhir contributed a knock of 50 runs. The duo shared a massive 132-run partnership for the third wicket.

However, despite this formidable total, the target did not prove to be too challenging for Punjab. Chasing the target, Punjab Kings scored 198 runs and clinched the match with 21 balls to spare.

The heroes of Punjab’s victory were Prabhsimran Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer. Prabhsimran scored an unbeaten 80 runs off just 31 balls, an innings studded with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant innings of 66 runs off 35 balls. The pair shared a 139-run partnership for the third wicket. Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack proved to be lackluster once again. Even Jasprit Bumrah proved expensive, failing to take a single wicket. For the team, only Allah Ghazanfar made an impact, claiming two wickets.

All in all, while grand claims are being made regarding the future of the IPL and players’ earnings, the matches on the field remain just as thrilling.
